The Mets will not be bringing Jose Quintana back after being hit with multiple blows to their rotation early in spring training.
The veteran southpaw is signing a one-year contract with the Milwaukee Brewers, The Post’s Jon Heyman confirmed Monday.
President of baseball operations David Stearns reshaped the Mets’ rotation this offseason by signing Frankie Montas and Clay Holmes to multiyear deals while re-signing Sean Manaea.
Montas was diagnosed with a high-grade lat strain two weeks ago and was shut down for 6-to-8 weeks, meaning he likely won’t make his Mets debut until at least mid-May.
Last week, Manaea was diagnosed with an oblique strain that will sideline him through Opening Day, though the left-hander — who signed a three-year, $75 million contract — could be back in mid-to-late April.
Quintana, 36, spent the last two seasons in Flushing, pitching to a 3.75 ERA in 170 ⅓ innings across 31 regular-season starts last season with a 1.25 WHIP and 135 strikeouts.
He had a 3.57 ERA in 13 starts during a 2023 season which began with rib injury that delayed the start of his season to July.
Quintana made three playoff starts for the Mets last season, allowing zero earned runs across his first two appearances, which resulted in Mets victories in Game 3 of the wild-card round and Game 4 of the NLDS.
He faltered in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, however, allowing five runs on five hits and four walks in 3 ⅓ innings during a 10-2 loss.
Quintana has a career 3.74 ERA spanning 13 seasons with the White Sox, Cubs, Angels, Giants, Pirates, Cardinals and Mets.
